Back to Our Team » Dr. Joseph T. Bowles
Shortly thereafter during the summer of 1972, while at the home of a friend whose father was a chiropractor, he received his first chiropractic care in hopes of helping to relieve a severe attack of "hay fever". The adjustment brought about what he considered at the time an astounding effect, immediate relief. This profoundly positive experience served to rekindle his desire to serve the public as a doctor. From that first life altering adjustment in 1972, Dr. Bowles has been involved in many areas of the chiropractic profession during his career. First as a student, then as an associate, solo and multiple clinic owner, full time faculty member, CBP® instructor, CBP® Fellows president and now a member of the consulting, mentoring and coaching team of ChiroPractice Mentoring™. Dr. Bowles graduated in January of 1977 from Cleveland Chiropractic College of Kansas City. After briefly associating with Dr. Ciro Rustici in Independence Missouri, Dr. Bowles bought a small practice in Union, Missouri, a small country town of 5500 people located one-hour southwest of St. Louis, Missouri. At the time he purchased the practice on July 15, 1978, the weekly patient load was approximately 30 patient visits. The practice was located in the downtown area and the office occupied approximately 660 square ft. The previous owners lived and had their main practice located in suburban St. Louis. Unfortunately for the community, they were not regularly present to serve the needs of the public in Union and the surrounding areas. Dr. Bowles committed to both living in Union and working beyond full time hours at his new clinic. The practice soon grew to seeing in excess of 400 patient visits per week by December of 1978. It quickly became necessary to have a larger office to continue to serve the people. The clinic was subsequently moved to a larger, better equipped space of 1700 square ft in an adjacent building. Dr. Bowles remained as the solo practitioner of that clinic until May of 1983, when the clinic was sold for more than 10 times its original purchase price. After a brief sabbatical, Dr. Bowles moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana in January of 1984 and joined his longtime friend and college classmate, Dr. Ed Gavin in building an organization of 15 clinics located in southern Louisiana and southern Missouri. In time, the annual gross revenues for their organization approached $7,000,000.00 per annum. In the early part of 1996, Dr. Bowles and Dr. Gavin decided to sell their clinic holdings. Dr. Gavin went into retirement, and Dr. Bowles decided to take a different direction for the remainder of his career. In September of 1996, Dr. Bowles returned home to Kansas City and joined his alma mater of Cleveland Chiropractic College Kansas City in the capacity of a full-time faculty member. In early 1997, Dr. Bowles contacted Dr. Don Harrison and encouraged him to start presenting CBP® programs in Kansas City to create the opportunity for doctors in the Midwest to learn this invaluable approach to care. With Dr. Bowles working tirelessly for and with his students, those meetings soon grew to have some of the largest attendances in the country. While on the faculty of Cleveland College - Kansas City, Dr. Bowles with the aid of then students, Dr. Dan Kjeldgaard (Iowa) and Dr. Craig Hennie (Tennessee) established the first CBP® club at Cleveland-KC. Dr. Bowles also brought CBP® to the elective curriculums of Cleveland, Kansas City and Cleveland Chiropractic College, Los Angeles in early 2000. Many CBP® Fellows and CBP® practitioners came through his CBP® program at CCC-KC and now practice throughout the US and in a host of foreign countries. Dr. Bowles feels that the greatest professional honor he has received or ever could receive is as the co-recipient of the 2001 CBP® chiropractor of the year with Dr. Bob Berry of New York. He states that he feels this way, simply because CBP® represents the clinical and research elite of the profession. In May of 2005, Dr. Bowles returned to his adopted home town of Baton Rouge, Louisiana after stepping down as full-time faculty at Cleveland, Kansas City. He has now embarked upon a life of public service, and service to the chiropractic profession. As part of the ChiroPractice Mentoring™ team, he will share his passion for chiropractic, as well as his 37 years of real-world experience in the business of chiropractic with CPM™ clients. Dr. Joe Bowles is an invaluable asset to colleagues, students and practice teams in analyzing and resolving personal, professional and practice challenges. |
